Pure Downeast Lighthouse Tour
AUGUST 7-10, 2003 / TOUR #80703
We have added a FREE NIGHT to this great tour.
On August 6 we have planned a reception for you at the Holiday Inn where you will be able to meet your fellow travellers and your guides. You will be able to come in to Augusta and your room will be waiting...The reception will be at 7:00 pm. If you come early there is a large shopping center across from the Inn.
This lighthouse tour of 4 days and (3) 4 nights will take you to the easternmost part of the United States where the sun shines first. It is remote and tranquil - far removed from the maddening crowd. The water is clear & cold and deep. The lighthouse shown here is West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec. The light tower is remembered by its broad bands of red and white.
We will begin our tour in Augusta, meeting at the Augusta Civic Center at 8:00 am..... Our first stop will be to the Bearfest in Belfast where you will be able to see the 4ft tall fiberglass bears that have been painted and decorated by artists. These bears will be auctioned off in the fall.
Our first lighthouse visit is to the Fort Point Light in Stockton Springs. Then it's on to Bar Harbor and a Lighthouse Cruise. You will be treated to a Lobster Bake that evening, after which, you will be able to explore some of the shops in Bar Harbor. Breakfast & dinner included today.
The next morning we will travel downeast through the Blueberry Capitol of the World, stopping for breakfast along the way. Upon arriving at our downeast destination, we will take a cruise past the Ea. Quoddy Lighthouse, and behold the magnificant prescence of whales. If the tide is right we will be able to see "Old Sow", the world's second largest whirlpool. This area has the greatest tidal range in the continental USA. This will be a cruise to remember. Later we will make a visit to the West Quoddy Lighthouse and you will be able to view The Lubec Channel Light from the bridge connecting Lubec and Campobello. On the way to our hotel and dinner, we will make another stop to the Mulholland Lighthouse on Campobello Island. Breakfast & Dinner included today.
Following breakfast we will go to the East Quoddy light (shown here). The rest of the morning will be spent touring the grounds of the Roosevelt estate on Campobello Island.
After lunch it's back to Bar Harbor and a visit to the Bass Harbor Light. A Sunset Dinner Cruise is in store for that evening.
Breakfast and dinner included today.
Next morning will be spent viewing more lighthouses and a tour around Cadillac Mountain. Lunch included today.
Estimated cost of tour based on 36 people is $1449.00 per couple and $875.00 single (child in room with parents $495.00).
