Would you like to have one last mini vacation in Maine before settling down for your winter's nap? Let us escort you on a fun and historical lighthouse tour in Mid Coast Maine.
This tour originates in the Reading, PA area (with pick-ups along the way to Maine). On this tour, you will see 14 lighthouses and be able to take a peek inside one of them; the Shore Village Museum (considered the best of its' kind in the country) 4 dinners (including a Clambake and Dinner Theatre), 4 breakfasts, 2 lighthouse cruises, a stop at LL Bean's and more.
With the fall foliage in full color, you will want to bring your camera and binoculars. Warm clothing is a must and a good pair of walking shoes, sunglasses, flashlight and whatever else you think you might need for a 'wicked' good time. Travel insurance is recommended.
The first night we will meet in Boothbay Harbor for a reception and dinner. Overnight will be at the lovely Rocktide Inn.
Following breakfast, we will begin our tour at the Pemaquid Lighthouse. This is one of Maine's most important lighthouses...and is featured on the State Quarter. The scenery here is spectacular, you will be able to walk up to the light. Other lighthouses to be seen this day are the Marshall Point Lighthouse (featured in the movie Forrest Gump). Lunch will be at Miller's Lobster in Spruce Head after which we will cruise the bay and see Two Bush Lighthouse, Whitehead Lighthouse and Tenants Harbor Light (owned by artist - Jamie Wyeth). Then it's on to the Owl's Head Lighthouse. This lighthouse is occupied by a Coast Guard family and sits up high on a rocky ledge. You will be able to walk up to it.
We will have dinner at the Trade Winds and go on to Camden to spend the night.
Following breakfast we will begin this day at the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse where you will be able to go inside. This lighthouse is owned by the city of Rockland and is being restored by the Friends of the Rockland Breakwater, which is a part of the American Lighthouse Foundation. If time permits we will visit the Shore Village Museum.
After lunch we willl travel back to Boothbay Harbor for a scenic Lighthouse Cruise.
That evening you will be treated to dinner at Boothbay Harbor's Carousel Dinner Theatre.
Following breakfast you will be able to look around the charming town of Boothbay Harbor and explore some of the quaint shops. At noon you will board a boat bound for Cabbage Island and a real Downeast Clambake. Then its' on to LL Bean. Your hotel for the night will be the Holiday Inn in Saco.
Following your breakfast you will begin the journey home, with many happy memories.
This trip will be a real Maine experience and guaranteed to be one you will remember.
Your only out-of-pocket expenses will be for lunches, tips to on-site guides, hotel attendants and personal items. Alcohol is, also, not included.
